Empirical Rule
Directions
Explore the Empirical Rule across three normal distributions. In the Control Area, choose a Normal Curve and an Empirical Rule (68%, 95%, or 99.7%). The histogram shows proportional height; the black curve is the theoretical normal, and the center black line marks the mean. Blue lines are used to correspond to the boundaries indicated by the Empirical Rule, and the yellow region is the shaded area. The x‑axis labels show actual values of the distribution (from -4 to +4 standard deviations).
To list all descriptions at once, check Describe all scenarios or press D. When enabled, the table shows 9 rows (3 distributions × 3 Empirical Rule levels).
Press the D key to toggle the table of all scenarios. The shaded area label is centered at proportional height 0.10.
Shaded area corresponds to 68%.
